Mission Statement

The mission of Desert Sounds is to provide opportunities for those who demonstrate a desire to pursue educational experiences through musical collaborations and promote the highest quality musical performances for the enjoyment of audiences.

History

Desert Sounds was founded in 2008 by community residents who had professionally and personally experienced the power of the instrumental musical arts.  In the fall of 2009 Desert Sounds launched the first phase of the Jeremy Project’s instrument lending program.

During the 2009-2010 school year, The Jeremy Project supplied seventy free instruments to students in five school districts representing fifteen schools. This surpassed our goal of forty instruments.  Building on our success, we again surpassed our goal and during the 2010-2011 school year we provided two hundred sixty-two instruments to students in eleven school districts representing sixty-two schools.  In the 2011-2012 school year, Desert Sounds again experienced tremendous growth. We implemented our Musical Mentors program and began our student Mariachi program.  Again The Jeremy Project’s instrument lending program exceeded our expectations and provided three hundred twenty-two underserved students from eight school districts representing sixty-eight schools with free instruments.

What we do

We help underserved children explore and experience the musical arts by providing free instruments and ancillary supplies, lessons and performance opportunities.

Volunteers

Our talented and giving volunteers make us successful and help us do more with less.  Without each one generously donating their time and expertise we would not be a part of helping a child’s musical dreams come true. This year our volunteers donated over 3,000 hours saving Desert Sounds in excess of $63,000. Every volunteer is the cornerstone of our success.  Thank you for sharing your most valuable resource.
