Eric originally volunteered to become a Musical Mentor in 2009, and was matched with his first student in June of this year. He now mentors five students weekly on violin and viola. If Desert Sounds were to hire a private instructor it would cost over $5200 every year to help these students.

Eric has over 22 years of violin performance experience. He has played in ensembles ranging from orchestral, chamber, and solo classical performance to playing shows with various local bands. Eric also has experience providing session work at various recording studios around town. Awarded first place in the 2010 MCCCD Artist of Promise competition, he is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in music education from the Arizona State University School of Music under the tutelage of Dr. Katherine McLin.

Having previously studied with Dr. Phyllis Skoldberg, who was a direct student of Ivan Galamian, Eric is skilled in instructing the “Galamian Method” of violin playing while also drawing from the ideas other great pedagogues. Having taught for several years in the east valley, Eric is excited to share his admiration for the sonic possibilities of the instrument and help his students learn to set and achieve their own musical goals.

Please join us in thanking him in the comments below!

My name is Jonathan; I attend Carson Junior High School, I have the pleasure to participate in the Jeremy Project and I am thankful to have the enjoyment to use one of your instruments. I know that you must have a busy schedule, and I am appreciative that you are taking time to read this letter.

The main purpose of this letter is to notify that I want some private lessons, from Desert Sounds. I have multiple reasons why I want to have private lessons. One reason, I desire private lessons, is because I want to get better on how to play my instrument, the clarinet.

Another reason is because I am auditioning for the Mesa Honor Band, which is a prestigious band, composed of the finest young musicians. A third reason is that when I go to high school, I want to take Marching Band and regular band. Also, the musicians at my school that get in the Mesa Honor Band might be eligible to get in the top, or best, band at the high school.

Therefore I really want to improve my clarinet playing, so I can get in the Mesa Honor Band, which will benefit me in so many ways. I sought to tell you that transportation might be a problem, if I take the lessons. I am delighted that you have taken your time to read my letter and I hope you take it into consideration.
